The borderarea for children and simple souls
Here are some secret tips for exiting places.
Where are we?
We are on a tiny piece of land between the two seas: Northsea and the Baltic Sea, and at the border between two countries; Denmark and Germany.
You don't get that many places in this world: 2 seas and 2 countries to choose from - great!
By the coast you will find beaches, harbours and bays. You have all chances for exciting and funny experiences - the only limit is your imagination.
2 little islands – A long time ago a giant came walking. He wanted to cross the Fjord in one giant step. He managed so but only just. With a huge splash two large lumps of earth fell of his giant shoes into the water - THIS is how the Ox Islands was established in Flensburg Fjord. And this is certainly....
You can visit the Big Ox Island by sailing with a small ferry. There is lots of space to play on the island.
Bov Museum – The musuem is close to the Danish-German border. How was is here before? What did the Gendarme look like? How did they live? And another theme; the farmers work and life in the region.
Frøslevlejren – from World War 2. In the many hutments you can learn a lot about the war and how the prisoners lived. There is also a nature exhibition and in the plantation around the camp there is a playground and bon fire places, so you can bake twistbread and grill sausages.

Or visit the Papermuseum, where you can se paper art and buy nice things in the shop.
Krusmølle - just south of Aabenraa is Krusmølle. Here you can make your owen candles, visit the pottery, see how a real artist works or go around in the shop. There is also a small cafe with homemade cakes and small collations. And around Christmas - Krusmølle is pure cosiness.
|
Cathrinesminde – Tiles are being burnt by clay. There used to be lots of clay in this area - therefore you saw lot of smoke around the Fjord from all the different tileworks. Cathrinesminde still has one! Althoug, they do not produce tiles anylonger. But everything a real tilework had is here. You can even see a tile from the Great Wall of China. If you paricipate in a tour you get to see the large chimny from the inside.
