The Froslev Camp was build in 1944 as a German prison camp for the Danish resistance movement. A total amount of ca. 12.000 prisoners passed though the camp in its 9 months of existence.
Even though the Froslev Camp was build to prevent deportions to the German POW camps, about 1.600 Froslev-prisoners were sent on to other POW Camps and theis horrors.
After the Liberation the camp was (under the name Faarhuslejren) used as internment for those Danish citizens who were under suspision of country-damaging activities during the occupation. Later the camp has been used by the Armed Forces and the civil defense under the name Padborg-Lejren. Today the capm stands as the best preserved German POW camp in western Europe and it has a number of interesting museums and exhibitions.
